The first football team at Tech was a loosely-knit group of students called the Blacksmiths. On November 5, 1892, Tech met Mercer University in its first football game. The squad lost to Mercer at Macon, Georgia, 12-6. Tech played two more games during their first season, but they lost both of them, going 0-3 overall.
